Public sector must lead by example on cybersecurity, says minister

The public sector must lead by example in the fight to combat cybercrime, crime and security minister James Brokenshire told a Parliamentary technology conference yesterday.

"We'll ensure the government leads by example and when we procure and provide online services security is one of the key criteria," he told delegates at the Parliament and the Internet conference, organised by all-party Parliamentary groups dealing with ICT. "Security must be a fundamental part of systems, not just a wrapper round an insecure process."
Greater co-operation and partnership between public and private sectors will be a core principle of a new UK cybersecurity strategy due to be published by the government later in the autumn, Brokenshire said.
