Governor Appoints Lookingglass Cyber Solutions' CEO to Commission on Maryland Cybersecurity Innovation and Excellence

Lookingglass Cyber Solutions, a leading provider of global cyber situational awareness, today announced that its Chief Executive Officer, Derek Gabbard, was named to the Commission on Maryland Cybersecurity Innovation and Excellence by Governor Martin O'Malley. The commission is tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of federal and state cybersecurity laws and policies to identify inconsistencies, as well as provide feedback on the state of Maryland's role in promoting cyber innovation.

The 25-person commission will be comprised of individuals from Maryland's legislative and executive branches, higher education institutions and other organizations. Gabbard is one of five representatives from local cybersecurity companies on the committee. In addition to reviewing policies, the group will offer recommendations for a state framework and strategic plan to ensure a coordinated and adaptable response to cybersecurity attacks and to attract private sector investment and job creation in cybersecurity.

Gabbard is a 15 year veteran of the voice and data networking and security industries. As CEO, he is responsible for delivering products and services to Lookingglass' customers across the commercial, federal civilian agency and defense department communities. Prior to Lookingglass, Derek developed and delivered information security curriculum as a senior member of the technical staff at Carnegie Mellon CERT and managed product training activities as a manager at Arbor Networks.
