Frontier Communications Offers Last-Minute Holiday Shoppers Cyber-Security Protection Tips

Last-minute shoppers and post-holiday bargain hunters need to be alert to online scam artists, so Frontier Communications is reminding consumers of ways to avoid becoming victims of online identity theft and financial fraud this Holiday Season.
"Many consumers enjoy the convenience of online shopping at this time of year," said Steve Crosby, Senior Vice President, Government and Regulatory Affairs, for Frontier. "Some simple tips can protect personal and financial information during the hectic holidays and beyond":
1. Make sure your PC is safe. Have the most up-to-date
security software and firewalls. In addition, back up your data
and put identity theft protection on your PC. Frontier
Communications offers this service to all online users nationwide
              - no matter their Internet service provider - through its Frontier
              Secure product suite.
        2. Use common sense. Don't open emails, links or attachments
from unknown senders. Opening the wrong link can trigger the
download of malicious software (malware) that gives criminals
remote access to your PC. NEVER
respond to emails seeking personal financial information. Trusted
companies never ask for this information via email.
              -------------------------------------------------------------------
        3. Don't pay with a debit card. Cyber criminals can tap into
your checking and savings accounts through your debit card.
        4. Pay with a credit card and check your statements often. Using
a credit card allows you to dispute charges. Contact your
credit card company immediately if you notice an unknown or
              incorrect charge on your statement.
        5. Keep your online receipts. After purchasing an item online,
save your checkout information receipt and any email that can serve
as a record of the purchase.
        6. Sign up for credit card security. Credit card companies
have detection programs that notify you if suspicious activity
              occurs on your card.
        7. Set up a separate email account for online shopping.
        8. When a URL starts with https:// (not http://)
you know you're shopping on a secure site.

Consider a backup system for important data and records. Frontier Secure protects digital content at home or on the go with backup on a separate secure server, live unlimited U.S.-based tech support 24/7, PC tune-ups, and protection from viruses and cyber theft.
