Hacker pleads guilty -- attacks included Sacramento cybersecurity firm

A hacker known online as "Sabu" has pleaded guilty in the computer attack on Sacramento cybersecurity firm HBGary Inc., an incident that caused a worldwide uproar.
Hector Xavier Monsegur, 28, of New York pleaded guilty to charges of hacking, conspiracy, identity theft and other counts in connection with the February 2011 attack on the Sacramento company and its sister firm, HBGary Federal.
While scores of companies and government agencies have suffered computer attacks, the HBGary case was particularly embarrassing because the company is in the business of protecting clients against hackers.
Identified as a member of the notorious hacker group Anonymous, Monsegur entered his plea in U.S. District Court in New York last August, but the plea was kept sealed until Tuesday.
Court records say he was arrested last June, although it wasn't clear if he's been in custody since then.
He was one of six people identified in a nationwide crackdown on hacking announced Tuesday. They were charged with attacks on Sony Pictures, Fox Broadcasting and PBS.
